We at Blue Deer Center are excited to announce the return of the Whoop-de-doo, Sunday, September 1, 2013. The original Whoop-De-Doo was a very popular local festival that ran from 1969-1976. It was based in New Kingston, NY and originally entitled “a celebration of food, fun & folkways”. At that time, it was a three day event featuring Friday night square dancing, Saturday street fair and Sunday musical/theatrical performances. In it’s biggest year, 1976, it drew 4,000 people!
Since this is the first year of the return of the Whoop-De-Doo, we have condensed the event into a one day Family Celebration. In speaking to many local people, we have received a great deal of positive feedback and genuine excitement for the return of the Whoop-De-Doo.
